How to help my sick husband locate his retirement check?
My husband reach 62 last last Aug 2006.He filed for his retirement and disability benefit last May 06 & should have his 1st check last Oct.Until now he did not have his check. We do not know where it is.He told me to check at it in his personal email and apartment but i cant log on to his email coz his daughter(who hate me and our child) change the password.I didn't care changing the password before when i have access to it coz i trust her & dont want to deprive her of her rights. When she does that she and her family no longer visit my husband in the hospital 7months now, though she lives very near him.I live in Philippines and can't check his mail at his apartment or at the post office.I wish there is a way i can.Can SS office do a visit to my husband to solve this problem?or can i contact them in behalf of my husband? What must i do?its no problem with me IF her other daughter got the check if only they were not ignoring my husband in the hospital. My husband have a stroke but can talk.

There is no quick answer to your question. Most hospitals have patient representatives that might be able to help since your husband has had a stroke and has limited function. Suggest to him that he ask his patient representative to assist him by contacting the issuer of the retirement check to inquire about the status of his payments. If they are being taken by an unauthorized party, then the issuer can mail them to a new address. Additionally, a number of social service organizations might be able to help make sure that your husband receives his retirement checks and that they aren't being sent to someone who isn't using them specifically for his benefit. Being in the Phillipines you will be immediately suspect if you try to act on your husband's behalf. (The first question I had is why are you in the Phillipines when your husband is elsewhere-- in the hospital recovering from a stroke?) While you could get a power-of-attorney from him, you will ultimately have a difficult time resolving anything from so far away even if the entitites you deal with are not suspicious of your activities. It would be best for your husband to find local assistance or for you to go to him and help handle his affairs in that locality. [This is not legal advice.
