Old people get kicked out of retirement home?
How can an old person get admitted to live in a retirement home? How many years do they have to be employed and pay taxes in order for them to live in a retirement home. If they do, is there a limited amount of time they can spend there? Do they get kicked out once their time is maxed out (if they have no kids who are willing to support/ take care of them)? Or do they get to live in the retirement home until they die ?

- You don't get in for free, and it doesn't relate to how long you've been working. Most homes are privately run. While if you are indigent you may get a grant to cover the costs, generally you have to pay some or all of the costs from your own savings. You have to leave when you run out of money.
- There are other options. Medicare may take over the payments when you run out of money. My friend's mother is in a nursing home. They sold as much property as they could, and signed the house over to the facility. When the proceeds ran out, she was moved to a Medicare bed. It's not quite as nice and she has to share a room, but my friend is disabled and unable to care for her, and none of her siblings were willing or able. Another friend works in the facility, so it's better than it might be. If you have someone in difficult circumstances, there are resources available. Some at the church might be able to put you in touch with the correct agency. You could call Catholic Charities or Lutheran Family Services for assistance. Both will help anyone, not just their own members. AARP can probably give you some information. A social worker from the city or state can help you. There are certainly old people on the streets, but that's not the only choice.
