Are there any better gated retirement golf communities that are better than http://www.sunlakesofarizona.com ?
I saw the pictures on www.sunlakesofarizona.com of the community and did a little research on the five country clubs but can’t find anything comparable in the general area. The taxes and cost of living are very inexpensive. Real estate costs are very low compared to Boston. I want to compare with other over 40 (years of age) over 55 communities in the area, can't find anything else and find that very surprising. Sorry but I don't trust real estate people for showing me what I want to see. Sun Lakes is located adjacent to Chandler, AZ and Tempe, AZ. 10 minutes south of Phoenix off I-10

- I visit AZ a lot in the winter, but I do not know this city. IN fact I can not find Sun Lakes on a map. That said..... Having grass like this in AZ cost a small fortune, it does not naturally grow, the soil was brought in and it is going to need lots of water, several times a day. Because of this you need to check out the HOA fees for the different communities. I am willing to bet that you are going to find them amazingly high. I like AZ but would not live there year round (Sedona is my favorite there), for one the cost of running the A/C will be very high. Check the weather there, it is likely well over 100 for months at a time. This is one reason people go, it is too hot for native grasses and trees, therefore, no pollen.
- While it is in FL not AZ, many of us have found The Villages has allot to offer. It has 9 championship golf courses (18 or 27 holes), 22 Executive Golf courses (9 holes), 42 swimming pools, restaurants, a wide range of shopping, a hospital, all which can be accessed by golf cart in a gated community. Houses range from about $100K to well over a million dollars.
