Where to live for early retirement?
Does anyone have any suggestions for cheap places for a Canadian to make an early retirement to? I'm considering China (Shanghai), Thailand, Argentina and Uruguay. Any suggestions on ways to estimate my living expenses in different countries or other cheap places to live (stretch a fixed income as far as possible)? Which country would you recommend retiring to and why? I'd want to have high-speed internet, air conditioning and my own living space (exclusive use of a kitchen and bathroom) at a minimum.

- My advice is Florida, USA. We love Canadians here, we have phones, electricity, grocery stores and doctors offices. The Canadian dollar exchanges well and now is a great time to buy a home here!
- I've been to Argentina and I could see living there except I don't speak the language. With their financial situation I'm sure you could live cheaply as long as you kept most of your assets in Canadian currency and only converted when necessary. In China you might have the opposite situation with a rising currency making things relatively more expensive over time.
- You might want to consider Baja Mexico. There are a lot of communities of retired Americans and they have all the comfort you are looking for. There's a BIG variety of living spaces (condos, studios, family houses, etc) and a big plus is also that US is real close by so you can travel and do your shopping .
