Any opinions on Retirement Communities in AZ?
Actually, any places in the southwest. Looking for dry, warm climate. I am an avid motorcyclist. It will be semi-retirement, will most likely need to find a job for a while. I am a clinical social worker/therapist. Is there a relatively affordable, low traffic area with decent health care and a knock out view?

- Phoenix is a good place (I live here) but I like Prescott, Payson and Heber better as retirement locations. Summers aren't as hot there and you may be able to find work at the VA hospital in Prescott or the VA clinic in Payson or the one in Heber.
- As retirement communities Sun City and Sun City West are fairly nice. You will find the community centers offer a tremendous amount of support and options for things to do, and the communities are set up to cater to those who are retired in a fashion that is sensitive and impressive. You should look at these if you are looking for any kind of retirement, semi-, active, or passive.
- I agree with the other fellow that Sun City/Sun City West is a nice area. Especially with your career! I work as an RN with a substitute-nursing agency, so I've been to the 2 Sun City-area hospitals, Boswell and Del Web. They seem nice; either one might be able to use your talents. In addition, there are a number of rehab centers and SNF's in that area which could use your skills. If you're looking for a view, however, this area is flat. On the other hand, just head north on I-17, and you'll be into mountains within an hour or less.
- sun city is the primary retirement city for most of the phoenix area but you said you were looking for low-traffic areas and it tends to be pretty busy. alot of people travel through there on their way to laughlin/vegas as well. it is close to boswell hospital and arrowhead hospital isn't far away-so job-wise it's good if you want more quiet life-check out payson, prescott,or pinetop-these are far north of the valley (pinetop being more northeast and about 5 hours away) prescott and payson are about 2 hours north. quite rural, quiet areas both have a small community hospital. weather in summer is ideal (high reach at most 95) winters encounter some snow but manageable. Sun lakes is another place you can check out. it's located in the east valley and is a nice place to live. chandler regional hospital is located close by for work. here are some links-hope they help. good luck with your search!! http://www.ci.payson.az.us/ http://www.cityofprescott.net/ http://www.pinetoplakesidechamber.com/ http://www.azcommerce.com/doclib/COMMUNE/sun%20lakes.pdf http://www.robson.com/ http://www.suncityaz.org/
