best region/town in malaysia for active retirement???

would appreciate opinions of the best town/region in malaysia for an early 50s single man. an idea of the cost of a comfortable apartment and general expenses would be very welcome also...... internet access and costs? golf courses and costs? variety of nightlife........NOT thai style.........and costs. expat communities???? best regards.......and thanks

1. Taiping, in the Perak state on the north. Beautiful town. The food is like heaven and cheap. Expenses? You are paying double in KL not in Taiping. Amenities is everywhere. (Shopping complex, Texco, Giants) Internet by subscribing TM. There's some golf courses, but you have to check. Nightlife bores you, but they have karaokes, nightclubs..i dunno. I'm a Malaysian, used to live there. If I wanted to retire, I'll head back to Taiping. Others may recommend you, good luck.
2. Kota Kinabalu, Sabah East Malaysia. It's the city with lots of beautiful beaches, reasonable cost of living, world-class golf courses and variety of nightlife and food. You will like it.
3. expat communities are mostly located in kl and penang. penang is a good place to retire coz it has all the facilities like kl but slightly cheaper to live there. the island is a combination of rural and urban. it is also well connected with other asean countries.
4. Penang is a good place for active retirement. Plenty of Chinese, Indian and Malay food. Accommodation reasonable compared to Kuala Lumpur. You have the hills and the beaches all in one. It is also know as the Pearl of the Orient. Golfing, internet access and night life are aplenty on this island. Have a great time in Malaysia.
