Can you live in an apartment for the rest of your life and never own a home?

I don't think I will ever have the luxury of owning a home simply because I don't make enough money. My question is, is there anybody who has been renting for a long time? Can you get through life somewhat happily in this type of living situation? I'm not one who is in need of a lot of luxuries, I'm a simple guy :D I'm able to save some money every month in hopes that when I get old and can't work anymore I will have enough money to support myself throughout my retirement.

  1. When you find the answer, let me know! I've been living in an apartment for five years and everyone has kept hounding me to buy a home and that I am wasting money. I personally like living in an apartment because theres no real obligation and a house note is just an inch of our my budget without being able to live comfortably.
  2. Look at it this way. No taxes to worry about, there is always someone to pay for the repairs...the landlord. I love it..I have never been in a home...I love apartments. I can't take the added expense of taxes especially here in Jersey. The taxes are through the roof. Rent is high as well but I have a roommate and have a great landlord. No big deal. I am very happy. And Safe!!
  3. Some people are not fans of renting or living in an apartment. But, I always liked the idea of living in an apartment. I am not sure why. I guess I like the small, cozy quarters of an apartment. And some apartments are really nice- with great amenities - like a gym, pool, etc (and you aren't in charge of the upkeep!) Some are conveniently near great shops, etc. I don't know, but I always wanted to live in an apartment. And look forward to having my own one day. As long as you are happy, then I would not fret. But, if you do want a home, start saving a certain amount of money each month for your home.
  4. you sure can , all i have to look at is my dad , never owned a home
  5. Some people rent forever. Nothing to worry about. -w-
  6. I'm originally from New York City, and my parents (and most of my friend's parents) lived in one or two apartments for their entire adult lives. Many people never own a home--particularly if they live in large cities. The whole shame of this is--if people had bought homes years ago (when they were far more affordable), their mortgages would be paid in full--they would have paid far less over the years than a renter. Additionally, they'd have an investment in their home--and would probably make a huge profit when they sold--or passed down to their children.
  7. If you value saving money more than having a house, then you can be happy that way. Think about the debt. Now, think about freedom from debt. The idea of having money left over every month sounds great. Personally, I can get through life happily by obeying God, and He advised that we use money wisely. Not many people can afford a house, and we all have different circumstances, so really no one can answer this without knowing the details. I would suggest the following verses, for guidance, if Christians are reading this. Proverbs 22:7, Romans 13:8, Deuteronomy 28:1,2,12 I have not found anything in the Bible that encourages home ownership over renting.
