What are the best places in Charleston, SC to buy a retirement home?
Need help to figure out the best neighborhoods/cities in or near Charleston to buy a retirement home or a lot to build a house. We are looking for: -Easy drive to the beach and resort towns like Hilton Head -Single Family home would be ideal, but would consider a villa or townhouse too -Amenities like Tennis and Golf close by -About .25 to .50 acre lot Thanks.

- i am going to suggest that in this foreclosure world that you can probably get a better deal mortgage or tax [county RE taxes] foreclosures.
- oooh, Charleston. Good choice! I would definitely check out James Island, which is on the south side of town. It is a very neat area with low crime and it's closer to the amenities that you are looking for. There are a lot of retirees that live in that area. Also, Mount Pleasant, Sullivan's Island, and Isle of Palms are good places to look. The latter two are more beachfront properties, so they will be more expensive. Mount Pleasant is close enough and significantly cheaper than those. One more area is just north of Mt. Pleasant off the 17 by the Dunes golf course. That is a nice area as well. Stay away from North Charleston area. Good luck and have fun!
